do{}while()
In do{}while(), a robot vacuum cleaner is a readymade and an oblique art reference to Duchamp’s infamous urinal, Fountain (1917).
A meditation on the automisation of domestic labor and the irony of monotonous work, do{}while() sees Wong working within the pre-existing programming of the robot vacuum to create an installation that turns the robot’s banal chores into pattern-making.
As it clears away black charcoal powder the artist has placed on the floor, the robot spreads the powder cleaning in a Sisyphean task of seemingly meaningless but beautiful labor. do{}while() invites a mutual recognition of the subject position of the worker between the human viewer and the machine.
